The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) was chartered by Congress in 1947 to service the needs of spinal cord injured veterans who survived the initial trauma of their injuries. PVA is a non-profit organization that neither seeks nor receives government funds. The organization supported by donations from the general public and strives to improve the care, treatment and rehabilitation of spinal cord impaired persons through improved technology and public awareness while searching for the ultimate cure for spinal cord injuries and diseases.

The Mid-America Chapter Paralyzed Veterans of America  (MAPVA) was established in March of 1979 as the 32nd Chapter. Its mission is to serve the needs of the local veterans with spinal cord injury or disease as well as the needs of the entire disabled community.  Mid-America Chapter PVA is a non-profit organization administrated primarily by disabled volunteers. Over 60% of the funds are used for service programs.  PVA's primary interest, as chartered by the United States Congress is to assure the well-being of the veterans and their families.  To provide personal service for all veterans, PVA has developed a National Service Program with a network of service officers in 45 Veterans Administration facilities rivaled by none. Field Service Officers are trained exclusively to represent veterans and their dependants with claims for veteran's benefits.

PVA National Service Program is recognized as one of the most effective programs in adjudicating veteran's claims before the Veterans Administration. Paralyzed Veterans of America's record of wins before the Board of Veterans Appeal is the best of any organization.  PVA Service Officers maintain offices at the VA Regional Office (Muskogee VARO) in Muskogee, Oklahoma; the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center (VAMC) to assist veterans with their claims; and as well as the Wichita R. J. Dole VAMROC in Wichita, Kansas.
