2008 Sooner Shootout by Richard Harrell, Tournament DirectorThe 2008 Sooner Shootout was held on February 29 through March 1 at Magoo’s in Tulsa. The Shootout was a 9-ball double elimination tournament with a second flight tournament for those not placing in the top 4 of the main event. The shootout was the second stop on the National Wheelchair Poolplayers Association (NWPA) and on the PVA National Tour. Both NWPA and the PVA award points towards a National Champion. With over $4000 in cash and prizes players came from around the country. Terry Guess came from Missouri as the number one player in points, but was knocked out of the main event and into the second flight tournament. He was favored to win the second flight tournament, but was eliminated by Rich Harrell. Shawn Tracy eliminated the NWPA President, Jeff Dolezal. The second flight tournament came down to Rich Harrell versus Charles Interrante in a close match with Charles Interrante winning. The main event came down to 4 players two from Minnesota and two from Oklahoma. Jon Bostic defeated Brian McFarland to take third. The finals matched Bill Frisby from Minnesota against John Reynolds from Tulsa. Bill prevailed in a very close 7 to 6 match for the win and the $750.00 first prize. Viking Cues donated $3000 worth of cues that were raffled to promote the tournament, but three cues did not arrive in time so we will raffle them in the near future. Magoo’s was a great host and we will host another tournament there next year. Thank you AJ Gill, Watson’s and Magoo’s for your support and all the people who bought raffle tickets in making this event a success. The tournament results are as listed:
